Warning about magic erasers!!!?

this was in an email that was sent to me

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers........... Subject:

SUPER IMPORTANT! Pass on to people with kids!

MAGIC ERASER BURN INFORMATION

IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN OR GRANDCHILDREN, PLEASE TAKE NOTE!!

One of my five year old's favorite chores around the house is cleaning scuff marks off the walls, doors, and baseboards with either an Easy Eraser pad, or the real deal, a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I purchased a package of Magic Erasers ages ago when they first came out. I remember reading the box, wondering what the "Magic" component was that cleaned crayon off my walls with ease. No ingredients were listed and absolutely no warnings were on the box, other than "Do not ingest."

My package of the Scotchbrite Easy Erasers didn't have a warning either and since my child knew not to eat the sponges and keep them out of reach of his little brother and sister, it was a chore I happily let him do.

If I had known that both brands (and others like them) contain a harmful alkaline or "base" chemical (opposite of acid on the pH scale) that can burn your skin, I never would have let my little boy handle them. As you can see from the picture, when the Scotchbrite Easy Eraser was rubbed against his face and chin, he received severe chemical burns.

At first, I thought he was being dramatic. I picked him up, put him on the counter top and washed his face with soap and water. He was screaming in pain. I put some lotion on his face - more agony. I had used a Magic Eraser to remove magic marker from my own knuckles a while back and I couldn't understand why he was suddenly in pain. Then, almost immediately, the large, shiny, blistering red marks started to spread across his cheeks and chin.

I quickly searched Google.com for "Magic Eraser Burn" and turned up several results. I was shocked. These completely innocent looking white foam sponges can burn you?

I called our pediatrician, and of course got sent to voice mail. I hung up and called the Hospital and spoke to an Emergency Room nurse. She told me to call Poison Control. The woman at Poison Control said she was surprised nobody had sued these companies yet and walked me through the process of neutralizing the alkaline to stop my son's face from continually burning more every second.

I had already, during my frantic phone calling, tried patting some numbing antibiotic cream on his cheeks, and later some Aloe Vera gel - both resulted in screams of pain. The Poison Control tech had me fill a bathtub with warm water, lay my son into it, cover him with a towel to keep him warm and then use a soft washcloth to rinse his face and chin with cool water for a continuous 20 minutes.

My son calmed down immediately. He told me how good it felt. I gave him a dose of Tylenol and after the twenty minutes was up, he got dressed in his Emergency Room doctor Halloween costume and off we went to the Hospital.

They needed to make sure the chemical burn had stopped burning, and examine his face to determine if the burn would need to be debrided (from my fuzzy recollection of hospital work, this means removing loose tissue from a burn location).

They sent us home with more Aloe Vera gel, Polysporin antibiotic cream, and some other numbing burn creams. By the time we got home, my son was crying again. I tried applying some of the creams but he cried out in pain. Water seemed to be what worked the best.

After a rough night, I took the above photo in the morning. He was swollen and wouldn't move his lips very much to avoid moving the skin on his taut cheeks.

Today he is doing much better. The burns have started to scab over, and in place of red, raw, angry, skin we have a deeper red, rough healing layer. I can touch his skin now, without it stinging.

So please be very careful with these sponges, you could save your child's life!

Warning about magic erasers!!!?
Never believe anything you get in email. Especially forwarded email. Check out any of the urban legend websites and type in the subject of the email. Chances are, its in there. Ive gotten a thousand emails forwarded from concerned friends and family. Every single one of them is bogus. check it out is you have a question.

Oh and I just checked it out and I was right. It is an urban legend. Completely bogus.
Reply:I wondered where everyone else was getting their information. I noticed you said it was in an email and not your child. You never even mentioned if you believed it or not. Gotta watch those Fwd emails sooooo many people believe this stuff. Report It

Reply:This happened to my son yesterday,it is true,he is 14 and was outside helping paint fan blades,I was inside working, he came in after trying to get the paint off w/magic ereaser was burned on arm...some on here should research before blindly answering. He will be ok, but said it burns. Thanks. Gary. Report It

Reply:This is why children should not be cleaning, or using cleaning products. I only let my son use my cordless floor sweeper or a broom to "help" clean.
Reply:Wow, thanks for the warning. I have some of those at my house and I have two year old twins. I will make sure they get thown out and if I keep then, I will use them very carefully. Thanks again for the warning.
Reply:You shouldn't believe every email you get. Here is a website that tells what is true or false. www.snopes.com or this one about the magic erasers: http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/era...
Reply:dude this is great and all, but this is not a question!
Reply:Wow people believe ANYTHING that gets forwarded to them don't they?
Reply:People can be so dumb. This isn't true, just another urban legend. Stop spreading moronic rumors!
Reply:All cleaning products should be kept away from children. I thought everyone knew that. There should be a product label for those who haven't been informed. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is a miracle cleaner! I use them all the time. Usually the cleaners that clean that well have some strong stuff in them, how else would they work so well. I am glad your little boy is doing better. I hope he doesn't have any scars. Call or write in to the company. I'm sure they will print the warning on the box if they are informed.

I just researched your question and the little boy had apparently had an allergic reaction. Children's skin is much more sensitive than an adults. They changed the packaging in January to add a warning. No need to warn people any more.
Reply:a chemical burn you would not treat at home, first you would go to the E.R. unless you have a kit at home for it. which is highly unlikely. running water over a base burn wouldn't help it, need an mild acid to counter a base.
Reply:so this is not true?
Reply:No this is NOT true.

However, Magic Erasers can bother people with asthma. My son reacts very badly to them. So, like any cleaning product you have to be careful if you have a child with a health concern.
Reply:GOTO The source, this isnt from you, the entire story is available here at the link below everyone.... READ it at the Source
Reply:It sounds like a story someone made up. For any concerns about chemicals, the company can be contacted.
Reply:http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl...

he pH factor of Magic Erasers (and presumably Scotchbrite Pads) falls between 8 and 10 -- alkaline enough, according to a poison control center consulted by Jessica, to cause a "base chemical burn." And they ought to know. But it bears pointing out that even a pH of 10 to 12 is comparatively mild on the alkalinity scale. Baking soda has a pH of 9, for example, Milk of Magnesia has a pH of 10, and soapy water has a pH of 12 (see pH scale).

Conceivably, a patch of skin -- especially the sensitive skin of a child -- could be made more susceptible to irritation by a weak alkali if it is mildly abraded by, say, the melamine foam surface of an Easy Erasing Pad. With vigorous enough rubbing, on the other hand, perhaps the material itself is capable of causing injuries such as those shown in the photograph. It is also possible that an allergic reaction was involved.

http://www.americanchronicle.com/article...

I had also checked up on this story on Snopes.com and they stated that the manufacturers, that they know of and investigated, do not put chemicals in the sponges. It is meant to be a mere abrasive cleaner.
Reply:In case you are not aware this email was bogus. See this site for more information. It describes the misinformation and facts regarding the erasers.

http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/era...
Reply:Well, I stopped reading after I found a big error. Yes, when your child is screaming in pain, and big red bumps pop up on your child's face, you sit down on the computer and go to Google. What a great parent!

Second, you should never let a small child use a cleaning product. There's another mistake. I child can easily, easily forget that you said do not put it in your mouth. What if he got hungry or thirsty and since the product is like a block, he tries to eat it, or see's that the product is liquid and decides to drink it?

Edit: Okay, I decided to go back and read it. NEVER would poison control suggest that. So about an hour after words you decide to take the kid to an ER? Yes, now that is smart!
Reply:http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/era...

Check out urban legends and myths before passing them along as 'fact'!!!
Reply:Oh my gosh! Thank you very much for this information!
Reply:OH MY GOSH thanks soo much 4 posting this! ur saving many kids lifes ( or preventing them from harm)! I realy hope ur son gets better (dont know if he did cuz i didnt finish readin the whole think :) )

but anyways THANKS SOO MUCH!
Reply:Wow! That is a horrible thing for a child to have to go through. Thanks for passing it along. You can really help an unsuspecting family with young kids!
Reply:THANK YOU FOR THE WARNING!!! I use those things on a daily basis!!!!!! :-S

How do i find....?

...the artist for me??

After months of searching i found artists i'm happy with but they're miles from where i live so i have to arrange things over the phone or emails. When i say i'm black can i see some photos of work u've done on black people i get NO REPLY!!! You have to tattoo black skin different to the way you tattoo other peoples skin, thats why i asked to see pictures of their work on black skin.

I now know i could be getting no reply because they're either racist or don't have the experince to tattoo black people. They are happy to take the appointment till i say i'm black/ ask for photos of their work.

Does ANYONE in the UK know a GOOD tattoo artist that has experience with tattooing black people or dark skinned people? I know black people with tattoos but they wasn't done good!! The ink looks like it's all blurred and not filled in proper.

If any1 has any GOOD tattooist i should try let me know please and any advice with choosing a artist would b great.

Thank you

How do i find....?
I have 4 tattoos and I had them all done at the same place...Original Skin in North London. I also have my piercings done there as well. They are very good and very friendly. I will always go back as I have never had a problems with either my tattoos or piercings.

Check out their website: http://www.originalskin.info/
Reply:try looking on the web. even people are put tattoo on ebay. I haven't seen many black people with them excepted those that been in prioson or running ina gang or some home made tatto. try the web and try going in to one, and look calling is not the best way to get a prices,
Reply:well i know that u should go in your yellow pages and look at tattoo parlors in your area, yea i feel u cuz some ppl dont know how to do tattoos on dark skin..so good luck!....
Reply:Go to a store that sells tattoo magazines

Look in the back for the classifieds

They also list the conventions in your area.

That is a great place to meet many different artist.

There will be a lot of their work on display. Ask the

questions and you will get the answers.

Never get in a hurry, to get your work done.
Reply:Into You Tattoo Studio.

Reply:Perhaps its the way your addressing your situation that leads to them not getting back. Remember many people have had legal action taken against them for racial remarks, innocent or not. If your bluntly saying something like 'I'm a black woman' then maybe they think your trying to povoke remarks out of them, or they feel that your attitude in the email reflects that of a person who isn't legally old enough to have a tatoo. Try writing something like;

'I am of a asian origin and wondered if tattoos are still clearly visable on someone with dark skin. It would be of great help if you could send me a few pictures and some information on the affectness of skin tone in relation to having a tattoo done'

Or perhaps they just don't have any pictures to email over to you. All I can say is that if someone hasn't the time and patience to liaise with thier customer to accomodate thier needs, they don't use them. Try looking at Ratemyink.com for some pictures of tattoos on dark skin. Or use a search engine such as Yahoo! or Google to help you get the help you need.

If all else fails go to a tattoo parlor yourself and talkk face-to-face with the tattoo artist.

Middle School Drama

"Mother!" called Heidi. "Mom?!" Heidi groaned again. "I'm gonna be late for the first day day of school if you don't get out of the shower!" Heidi's mom came rushing out of the bathroom."Sorry, I was to busy making me look good for you." her mom declared. "Well your not going to make me look good if I'm late for the first day of school, and I promised Ruby and Hazel we'd pick them up!" protested Heidi. Ruby and Hazel were her best friends for years.Ruby was the all for everything kinda girl, while Hazel like to get her way sometimes. It was the best of both worlds. Heidi was a girl who looked like she was on the cover of Cosmo Farie. She had long, beautiful, wavy, blonde hair with pale skin and blue eyes. Hazel was a dark-colored skin girl, with darker straight brown hair and eyes. She could be bossy sometimes. Ruby was a tan skin and beautiful honey brown hair girl with, no doubt, hazel eyes like her mom. She give everything to be an actress. Now, back to what's happening.Heidi was about to rush out the door when she remembered something. "Mom," said Heidi."You forgot to put clothes on!Ugh!". Heidi hated being late. Her mom quicky put on some shorts and a tank top and they left.Heidi stared at her mom in disgust."Oh, mom! You totally don't match! That doesn't go with that and......." "Okay!" said her mom." Can you just take the bus?" she squeaked.Ugh.Heidi didn't like the thought of the bus.I mean, there buses you had to pay for.$ 2.00 per person."Fine," stammered Heidi."But you have to give me the money." Her mother reached into her pocket and gave Heidi three coins. In Fanastyland, there was only coins."Here," she said."That should do.Now go along before your late."

When Heidi got to the bus stop, she was looking all around.Where are they?Maybe Hazel and Ruby went to my house on accident thinking that we'd drive them to school!Heidi panicked. She quickly took her cellphone out of her pocket and pressed 2.That was speed dial for Hazel. The phone ringed. No one."Hi!"said someone out of no where.Heidi turned around. It was Hazel."OH MY GOSH!You scared me!" Heidi squealed."Where's Ruby?" Hazel rolled her eyes."She's at the doctors. She twisted her ankle at the basketball game last night." Heidi gasped."I told her not to join the team!" Hazel stopped her from blaming the squad."It's okay. We'll just go to school without her."Heidi finally gave in."Fine." she said sadly.

When Heidi got in the school, she panicked more. "Where's my locker?!" Heidi yelled across the hallway. Heidi always got a new locker every year.Usually the best. This year, not so much."AHHH!".Heidi scream was so loud the kids upstairs could hear her."I got the locker next to the boy's bathroom!" Hazel murmured "Finally she gets the bad one.....". Heidi turned around. "You think this is funny?!" Hazel rolled her eyes. " Not again. You always fight with me about the dumbest things!" Uh-Oh. Hazel was moody. No stopping her now. "Fine!Leave me.I'm not your friend anymore!" Heidi sighed. What am I doing? No can replace her. My day is going......................Before she could finish her thought, she tripped to the ground."OWW!" Heidi yelped. "Sorry....". Can it be?A signal for a better day? Standing before her was a handsome new boy." I wasn't paying attention, and I must have lost my train of thought." Heidi stared into space."It's okay..." The words barely made it out of her mouth."So, your a new boy right?". Heidi couldn't stop staring at him. He is so perfect. Hazel eyes, shaggy brown hair, and beige skin........."Are you okay?" he asked as he helped her up. Heidi hesitated to answer."Ummm, yea, so, what's your name? Mine is Heidi." Heidi smiled sweetly."Jake." he replied."It's Jake."Heidi smiled again. "Well, that's a nice name." Heidi said behind her smile. Heidi could feel her heart pounding. She knew she liked him. RINNNGGGGG!!!!! Heidi put her hair behind her ears. "That's the bell. Do you think we can talk more at lunch?" "Sure, I have time.". Jake waved and left to his class. The same as Heidi's....................................

When all the students made their way to class, Heidi chose the seat in the back, saving a spot for Jake. Just as Jake walked in, a perky honey browned hair girl walked up to him. Heidi's smile, turned into a frown. The girl started talking to him. "So, your new?Don't worry, I'll make you noticable." Jake walked away while whispering,"Whatever." She curled her hair up and let it fall."He is going to be a hard one." A hard what? thought Heidi. The teacher inturupted her thoughts. "Everyone please take your seats." Jake hurried to Heidi. The girl didn't like Heidi sitting next to him."I'll take roll now," said the teacher. "By the way, my name is Mrs. Marks, your math teacher. Now. let's see. Heidi Lemonwhisk?" Heidi raised her hand up quickly. "Here!" Her and Jake glanced at each other. " Nicole Diamond?" Of course. That girl raised her hand. "Here." she said with a smirk. " Um, Jake Linley?" Jake raised his hand. "Present." When Mrs. Marks finished taking roll, she said for all the kids to stand up, for they were going to the library to get the math books. "You will take what I give you." she said before the kids made it into the library. One by one each student got their math books. " Are you sure you don't want me to show you around?" said Nicole, that girl. Jake looked annoyed. "Yes, I'm sure. Anyways, I already have someone to show me around." Heidi smiled. "Here you go," said Mrs. Marks. "The best math book. There in good condition." Nicole didn't like her book so much."I can't believe mine is so beat up." The class mates whispered all the way back to the class.

You sound very precocious and wise.

Can I sue the police for neglegance, and making my life very difficult cause of there decisions?

I know this is going to sound fake but there is Hosptital and police records documented.

Well I will tell you the story from door close to door open 3 hours of pure torchure in a storage unit over 50$ and some baseball cards.

Well I didnt have the money or the cards to give them so 3 people straight criminal types locked me into storage unit, First the tall white boy w/bug eyes took out my knee cap w/a extending asp he hit me so hard it bent the asp and it wouldnt close, then after hitting me w a gun barrel in face they made me take off my shoes and socks and pick my teeth or one of my feet to hit w/a hammer I chose my right foot, The dark skinned man broke my foot w/a finish hammer right in the middle of my foot, then white boys girl frind and the dark skinned guy played head knees feet game where she would pick #s and whatever # he was thinking he would stomp and smash my foot into ground hit me w/gun barrel in face , or repeat hitting me w /asp in knee, finally dark skin tried to choke me out across back of a couch in unit and took torch lighters to my hands, the last thing was the 4cell maglight to the back of my head it sprayed blood all over them and the girl got scared and made me and dark skin leave, so he bound me up w tele wire and we got into my car, me passenger thank god the car was out of gas and he was so frustrated he broke my universal ignition and we got stuck at am/pm gas station cause i told him i didnt know the wiring codes, finally I said fuc_k you and started walkin to my friends down street, I called police cause they still had my car,the police found my car at storage units but it was dark an rainy and i was 100 yards away tryin to id one of them And I couldnt but it was him i gave his abbv first name and they said sorry you couldnt id him at first so he the only one here so if you want your car go get it its right there so now I got one guy who burned me w/torches not goin to jail and on the phone to the other guys tellin them I went to the police And the police left me hangin no arrests, no protection, nothin I was the scariest days of my life I couldnt even go home they said if Im at home my family will suffor to I got to many lil siblings for that, That was the everett police department 1 year ago or so i wish i could sue or something all the people involved are doin 25yrs for other crimes but its besides the point i spent 4 monthes hidin w/ no police help. I was supposed to be killed so i couldnt be a wittness but they got caught for other stuff lucky me NOT WoW Ive never told anyone other then police this do i have any rights at all????????????

Can I sue the police for neglegance, and making my life very difficult cause of there decisions?
You have a certain time limit or statue of limitations. Write to internal affairs. You can file a complaint against the police dept or officers which ever you want. They will investigate your story and then they will go from there. If you want more action call 7 on your side news they would take the story immediatly. Good luck..Go get them they deserve it more than the guys that hurt you. Police are corrupt about 89%. I feel the people that hurt you should be charged as well, My deepest sympothy to u I hope you are getting better. That is horrific and am appaulled at our justice system.
Reply:you have two years to file a civil suit.you have a very vivid imagination.show us a copy of the report.i want to see the proof of this made up story Report It

Reply:YES YOU CAN BUT DONT TRY TO DO THIS ALONE GET YOU A GOOD LAWYER FROM ANOTHER STATE AND SHOW HIM ALL TGHE EVIDENCE THAT YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOUR CASE AND HE SHOULD KNOW WHERE TO GO FROM THERE.
Reply:sounds like lies to me if i were on the jury
Reply:You should have done the right thing then instead of waiting a year later to say something. You may be able to add charges to them if you ID them this time and go to court for it. Get a lawer and go to the police station and file the report you should have done then and see if anything can be done. You still have 4 years left to do this..after that your screwed. You have the right to go and file the report and get a lawer for the case. Do it or lose it.
Reply:Get a civil lawyer and talk to the press.
Reply:SUE THOSE BASSSSTARDSSSSS FOR EVERY CENT YOU CAN GET AND SUE THE CITY OF EVERETT, TOO!!! SUE THE INDIVIDUAL COPS, TOO!
Reply:first of all do the cops have enough evidence to act? did they see your injuries? can you give them good IDs on the perps? what did you tell the people at the hospital when they asked what happened to you? your story sound a bit far out. 3 hours of torture over $50. you claim to have been struck severly on the knee and foot with impact weapons, been pistol whipped, struck on the head with a heavy flashlight, burned with a torch, and strangled. after all that they let you say f**k it and walk away to your friends. how were you able to walk with your injuries? if i was the cop on the scene i doubt i would have done much either. arrests require a certain amount of evidence and so far i do not see it.
Reply:Yes you have rights and alot of them. But first do you have a criminal history? not that it matters to me but it will matter to them the police. first did you have any pics taken of yourself, do you have a witness besides the police and the perps. You need to start to collect all the statement's if any and make a paper trail document everything. Find a lawyer knock on doors possible till one will listen to you. You need to understand that you are not only trying to sue the police but the state which can be done but is extremely hard, you also need to watch who you tell and what you say there are some attorneys out there and if you look on the Internet there is a Prepaid legal service That also can help you, I just hired them to help me I am also trying to sue a school on a federal charge almost impossible but it can be done I am going to see my 5th lawyer today and will continue until I find one. It gets frustrating and hard and sometimes you want to stand out in the street and scream but in the end it just may be worth alot more than you realize Good Luck to you
Reply:sounds like you are watching too much tv. watchout for the scotish mob they are looking for you too
Reply:Broken kneecap, broken foot, and smashed head: Then you said "f you" and walked to your friend's house from the AM/PM?

I wouldn't believe you, either.

LG enV or Samsung SCH-u740?
I just upgraded from an LG Chocolate to the LG enV. I love the enV. It is perfect if you do a lot of text messaging or emailing from your phone. It may have a small outside screen but if you really want to look at something dont use that one. I only use that when I am making a call. I can still use my 1gb microsd card in it. Most verizon stores have an active display so you can go through the phone and play with it, thats how i ended up getting it.

No animal, once frozen solid (i.e., water solidifies and turns to ice) survives when thawed, because the ice crystals formed inside cells would break open the cell membranes. However there are certain frogs that can survive the experience of being frozen. These frogs make special proteins which prevent the formation of ice (or at least keep the crystals from becoming very large), so that they actually never freeze even though their body temperature is below zero Celsius. The water in them remains liquid: a phenomenon known as 'supercooling.' If you disturb one of these frogs (just touching them even), the water in them quickly freezes solid and they die.
