Moms would you find this unacceptable too? Is it time to switch pediatricians?

Friday my 4 month old started furiously scratching her head. Theres a circular silverly area of skin there w/a few bumps. She can possibly have ringworm as she was in contact with my cousins preschooler who definitely had it, i didnt know about this until after. So the doctor is closed Fri Sat and Sun there is no way to page her either which already is a bit unfavorable. Today i called 1st thing as they opened at 1030. The receptionist said she had to take a msg and have her call back when I asked about being seen today. So at 130p I called back b/c she never returned my msg I asked for the nurse to see if she could advise me via phone since I obviously wasnt getting in there. I explained my story and she said "ok they took your msg and the dr will call back" Im like when?! She said after the day is over and the office is closed. What good is that? This way if I do need an appt the staff is gone and cant schedule it?! What?! How can the dr treat an ailment by phone? This is annoying

You should really start looking for a new Dr. I am not sure if ringworm on a baby is very serious but they should not take it so lightly. You need to find an office that caters to you and your child- for the most part anyway.
Reply:Don't bother calling. Go straight into the office with the problem, and refuse to leave until your daughter is seen. That will get their attention.
Reply:i would be pissed and change doctors or walk in if they take walk ins.
Reply:Yes, I would definitely find a new pediatrician. All doctor's offices should have someone on call during the hours that the office is closed. Also, 10:30am is very late for a doctor's office to be open, especialy a pediatrician. They should be open starting at 8am or 9am. It also sounds like the nurse in this practice is not very helpful either.

On another note, ringworm is highly contagious by skin to skin contact. It does sound like your daughter has it. The head is one of the spots it often goes to. The doctor should give you an anti-fungal cream if that is what it is. Hope things work out %26amp; best wishes!
Reply:If I were you I would have tried to book an appointment and explain that its' necessary that you see the doctor as soon as possible. If you can't see that doctor is there another doctor in the office that would be able to see you. If not is there another doctors' office that they can recommend.

Leaving a message probably won't do any good, but then the receptionist's hands are tied too, she can't force the doctor to call you and I'm sure the doctor has back to back patients to see.
Reply:Ringworn isn't urgent, so yes, it would likely be put to the end of the day. I would just schedule an appointment now for her to be seen later this week, if not tomorrow, so if you need to be seen, you already have the appointment.

Do I think it's a reason to switch pediatricians? Well, I guess if you are dissatisfied with the care, then do so. I know our clinic has an after hours call line, but I don't expect anybody, including my personal doctor, to be at my beck and call at all hours. We have urgent care and emergency rooms for those things. I also have learned that I can't expect a doctor to provide 'treatment' without seeing me. If you thought it should be treated, I guess you should have made an appointment in the first place. Been there done that. Now you know.
Reply:if you are unsatisfied with any dr that treats your child, you should replace them and the office. yes you can treat ringworm over the counter so to speak get a tube of athletes foot remedy and dilute it place it on the affected area. ringworm is the same virus as athletes foot and jock itch.
Reply:Maybe try calling and speaking with the office manager. This is unacceptable!
Reply:Doesn't matter what people think. It is your baby and you are the mother. If it bothers you then switch.

BTW- i would be upset too
Reply:i would go to another dr asap .. walk ins would be fine for most in this situaton good luck let me know wht happened
