I cut myself?

sometimes i get so mad and frustrated (over the stupidest things at times) that i get a crazy urge to "cut" myself - well its more of scratching, but wutever. does this mean i should go to counseling? it's been going on for over a year and a half (on and off).





just yesterday i was frustrated bc i couldnt find my phone - i was livid! - so i took a knife from the kitchen and just starting jabbing at my arm. it was just a reaction, and now i have 5 ugly scars on my skin - i'm so retarded! i want to stop but the compulsion is too hard to fight sometimes.





do i need help? or will this pass?

i no what u mean i had that problem "cutting my self " for years firstly because i was depressed then i started taking drugs and i got even more ****** up anyways


i got better from taking Prozac and other anti depressants


every one has a different reason for doing it and their are different ways to help u ...bcoz ur probably not on drugs or have depression id say just go to a doctor tell them what ur doing and they will refer u to a counselor and they will help u it will take time so don't be all like "that first visit was crappy i don't wanna go again"


talking to people can really help





u should try and find another source of release like do kick boxing or write stuff down or scream into pillows when no one is around





i dunno even go for a run or some thing

Reply:Get assistance as soon as possible, you will do better for yourself if you get some professional help.





Allot of people do this but it is not a good behavior and can lead to much worst if left untreated.

Reply:hunny this isn't going to pass.. trust me you need help with venting your anger, maybe a counciler can help you or just find a friend u can spill everything to, someone who is constantly there but cutting can lead in to so many more serious things and once you have the scares there there forever, physically and mentaly, please get help!
Reply:this is called "bloodletting." it is a sickness you need to see a psychotherapist. it is because you have high goals and when you fail you punish yourself severely. respect yourself and take tiny goals in life i mean tiny day to day

Reply:no its not something that will pass and you should wait for a little while and then talk to someone about it and say that you want help b/c if your doing that then your lashing out at something b/c cutting is a form of coping but not a good one and you just need to lern some newer heather forms of coping

Reply:Yes,you would be wise to see a counselor.You may have suffered some type of abuse,and this is a side effect.It may give you a tendency to be self destructive if you do not seek counselling to address what the REAL issue is.I hope you can love yourself enough to search for a good counselor.Good luck.

Reply:In regards to seeing a psychiatrist, I would suggect researching depression, anxiety disorder, bi-polar disorder and see if those syptoms are similar to the ones you are experiencing. I myself have depression and have done my fair share of cutting, but that does not necessarily mean you have any mental disorder. It could be provoked by exterior anxieties: school, friends, parents, etc.





Also consider:


Do you do it for the pain? Fore the release? To externalize the internal?





Here are some alternatives that I have done:


- Pinching


- using red lip-liner and streaking those lines across my arm (it looks identical)


- taken my frustration out on pillows


- screamed


- Left the area I am in (go to the movies, shopping, sightseeing) basically imersing myself into another environment/ distracting my mind.





It can be hard to talk about this to someone you know who may not understand. If it gets to the point where your arm is a cutting board or you feeling like going to your wrists then I would seek help immediatly. Therapy can be very helpful (just make sure they are professionals to ensure that they know what they're doing, otherewise you may as well be talking to a wall). I hope this helps.

Reply:yes, you need help. this is not natural, and chances are, it will not pass, but only get worse.
Reply:im a cutter too.... i havent gotten any help, but ive just tried to learn to control my anger... wen i get rreally pissed,and i feel that the only way to distract my emotional pain is by causing physical pain, i just take a deeeep breath... really i know it sounds cliche.. but it works....


ive been doing it for 3 years now....just try to get it under control,without seeking any help from others..(only if u want)
